Today I am excited to be sharing my unboxing of the Traxxas X-Maxx V2 8S.
From the Traxxas site, "Unrelenting 4X4 power, mammoth size, and award-winning innovation make X-Maxx the ultimate monster truck. With 30+ volts of extreme 8S power, X-Maxx defies physics, unleashing jaw-dropping acceleration and 50+mph speeds. Engineered to conquer the most extreme terrain and take brutal real-world punishment in stride, X-Maxx is the definition of Traxxas Tough™."
Traxxas also boasts the X-Maxx's large side, extreme power, and Maxx-Duty drivetrain. One of the great features advertised is that the X-Maxx is fully waterproof, which will be excellent for puddle and mud bashing. Another great feature listed is its Clipless Body Mounting. Traxxas has developed a new body latching system that quickly and easily secures the body firmly to the frame, which should be a great upgrade from the traditional pin-clips that can be a real pain. Finally, the X-Maxx includes Traxxas Stability Management TSM ® for maximum acceleration and control and has Self-Righting that can flip the truck back onto its wheels when it is flipped over, which I can't wait to try.
OK, on to the unboxing... The box arrived today and its a BIG BOX! I can't wait to open it!
First impression, the X-Maxx is GIANT. On the side of the box it shows the actual size, and its impressive! When I was looking at photos online, they just don't do it justice of how big the X-Maxx really is; it looks way bigger in person. For size comparison, I'm 6'1", this thing easily goes from my waist to my shoulder; it is HUGE. The wheels are a large 8" in diameter.
The remote feels good in your hands. It has soft rubber on the side, which is a nice touch and makes it more comfortable.
The body options were black and blue or black and red, I went with my favorite, red. There is a lot of detail in the paint, it looks very nice. After taking the body off, the frame is solid. It has some weight to it, but is not as heavy as I thought it would be. There's a fan for the motor, to keep it cool. The 8S version comes with an integrated wheelie bar and it has some bearings in it, which is nice so the wheels on it can turn.
So what else is in the box ... The X-Maxx comes with an extra 46-tooth spur gear, which I thought would be plastic, but its actually metal, which is really nice. It also comes with foam for the battery packs, to keep smaller batteries like the 3S secure. The foam has a sticky side, which is convenient; you don't have to worry about it slipping out and you don't have to attach it permanently. Also, it comes with the battery spacers, which clip into the battery compartment and hold the batteries in place.
More things it comes with are alan keys and wheel nuts, extra Traxxas decals, and manuals, including "What To Do When Your Traxxas Model Breaks", which I'm sure I'll be using a lot!
I tried to order the new 4S LiPO batteries, but they are currently sold out, they should be back in stock in a few weeks. So for now, I picked up some 3S SMC Racing batteries, which are the True Spec Premium 11.1V 7200mAh 131 Amps/90C. Later I'll post a review of those as well.
Overall I'm AMAZED by the size of the Traxxas X-Maxx V2 8S. I can't wait to take it out and bash around! With all the great features included, it should be an absolute blast! SUBSCRIBE and stay tuned to see some bashing, big air jumps, a speed-run, and a full review of the Traxxas X-Maxx. I'll also post about the 4S batteries once they are available. Thanks for reading!
